Many of Lowndes's potential readers may "shy" away from her relentlessly perky, exclamatory tone and use of terms like Shys (for shy folks) and Sures (for extroverts). Which is too bad, because much of her advice is sensible and based on desensitization techniques, or graduated exposure, therapists use in treating shyness and social phobia. The book is a mixture of confessional by a formerly shy author (How to Make Anyone Fall in Love with You) and no-nonsense guide. Lowndes cites scientific findings, such as that shy people feel continually judged by others at public events, which they remember as more negative than they were. Lowndes advises writing down one's immediate impressions after a social event. "If you later remember anything negative..., go back and check your notes. If that embarrassing or disappointing moment isn't in your notes, forget it. It didn't happen." She also offers useful advice, such as how to tolerate holding eye contact with strangers. Chapter titles like "How to Handle a Past Bummer" seem meant to appeal to younger readers, but the tone clashes with Lowndes's sometimes dated personal stories. Her great eureka–"I'm not shy anymore" moment takes place in the Playboy Club, where she dons bunny ears. (Aug.)

It was a delightful surprise. It was my first suspense novel. I'd already written several intrigue novels, and I thought suspense would be even more exciting.  In suspense, the readers suffer almost as much as the characters themselves. The Circle has all the marks of a detective story. The reader doesn't know the truth until right at the end. 
Why did you set the book in London's Square Mile? 
Tax havens are one protagonist in our current worldwide financial crisis. London is the world's largest financial center, and it holds a lot of secrets, just like the protagonist of my novel.
What should the reader expect from this new book? 
An avalanche of suspense. A major dose of intrigue and action but also the inner workings of a family struggling to fit in with their surroundings. A marriage that's not working. Disdain for boring daily life that, after all, turns out to be the most important thing we've got. The personal demons of a world that has no idea where it's headed. Solomon faces countless moral dilemmas, like judging people too quickly, recognizing he can't defeat evil by himself, and understanding that Evil with a capital "E" has a name and a face.

The designs and motifs were a big hit, but since they are mostly beginning crocheters, they felt at this point the projects were too difficult for them to crochet on their own.However, for an intermediate or advance crochet, these motifs present an exciting challenge. Each pattern can be assembled or styled into multiple looks. The 24 motifs are interchangeable, connectable and adaptable, creating 22 projects.Doris provides techniques for measuring, finishing and sizing so your garment reflects the real you. There are decorator suggestions on how to crochet buttons, rope and braids to add that designer touch. I especially liked the tip to use button studs to making your garments more versatile without committing to a button hole in a certain location.The instructions are clear and beautifully illustrated. My personal favorites are Titan Top page 75, T-Bird page 104, Kerry Top & Skirt page 120 and Andromeda Vest page 126.Doris designs beautiful doilies that fold, drape and grow into lovely items to wear.

I was so impressed with the resulting sweater that I came here looking for books she might have published.If you're a process person, this book is definitely for you. If you find yourself working on a pattern and thinking how you could adapt it to suit yourself, this book is also for you. If you've ever wondered how to design something with sleeves or how to add a collar to a piece, this book is for you. If you just want a book of patterns for Sweaters A, B, and C, you might be disappointed. "Convertible Crochet" includes several sets of motifs in square, pentagon, hexagon, and octagon shapes. Each motif and shape comes in two sizes--major and minor. The motifs have been carefully designed so that they are very easy to "join as you go," and instructions are provided for how to do that. There are also instructions for how to stabilize the motifs for use at stress points and joinings.The motifs will be familiar to anyone who loves or has admired the lacy thread doilies, bedspreads, placemats, and lace trims our grandmothers created with little tiny hooks. The magic happens when you take those tiny motifs and patterns and expand them by using garment-weight yarns.For me, I needed to sit down and read the book pretty much from cover to cover. I selected a design that was compatible with my size and shape, made a gauge swatch, and set to work. I'm delighted with the results. There are garments in the book that I'll never wear, but I can see myself making up my own garments from the motifs and instructions.Loved it!

I'm new to crochet and knitting but the designs in this book are the reason I wanted to learn. I love lacy wraps, covers, and shrugs. I'm also a big girl so they're harder for me to find. I want to make my own.Most of the instructions in this book go up to my size. I can't imagine crochet getting much more complicated than what's in this book but I've been working away at it and to my delight, I'm figuring it out as I go along. I'm still working on my first project from the book, a scarf, but once you figure this out the basics, it gets easier. The scarf is made with connected blocks, the block patterns alternate and you can pick which blocks you want to use. Each block I make is better than the block before it. I think I can do anything in this book after figuring out her basic approach through these blocks.

I give the designer 10 stars for originality and for designing wearable items that are not made for Grandma, although if she was a stylish Grandma, she'd wear them. Why not 5 stars, you ask? Well it's because of the way it's put together. I understand that Ms Chan is trying to teach a technique rather than just produce patterns for us to use, so if you are ok with that, then you would probably rate this 5 stars. However, if you simply just want to use the patterns, it's confusing. The diagrams are a big help but, close up diagrams showing the actual joining points would have been awesome. To be honest, I completely ignored all the assembling instructions when I made the Callista Top because I couldn't follow the written instructions. I have some experience with join as you go motifs so I joined where it made sense for me and it turned out fine.

I love Doris Chan's crochet designs anyway, but this book of patterns really makes her design's shine.There patterns in this book are a little unusual in that they are motif driven. Once you learn all the motifs in the book you can go on to create more than the designs that are in the book. You can create your own original dresses, tops, sweaters and more. I'm currently going through each pattern in the book so I can learn all I can from the concept before I start to create my own items based off of these motifs.You can really create your own, personalized items based off the concepts offered in this book. Have fun and create!

Well, I thought when I read the original Fifty Shades Trilogy, that nothing EL James came up with could top it. Then I read Grey, the first book from Christian’s POV and loved it. I’d always understood why Christian Grey was the way he is. Having had a less than ideal childhood myself, I could relate so much to how he felt and reacted.I loved Grey, but Darker surpassed it. OMG, being in his head. It was painful seeing him as an angry man, who still had that frightened little boy within him, who couldn’t get close to anyone, who was so scared of being touched, he wouldn’t sleep with anyone, for fear they might touch him in their sleep, and his need to tie up women so they couldn’t put their hands on him during sex.Watching him fall in love. Feeling so vulnerable and insecure because he’d never felt before, the way he feels for Ana. His fear of losing her. His self hatred and sadly not being able to see the good man he really was. I loved seeing him blossom under the gentle touch and love of Ana. I loved everything about this book. It was such an emotional read. I couldn’t get enough and hated it when I came to the end of this book. I can’t wait for the author to write Freed from his POV. Well, I hope she writes it. I can honestly say, that after having read the original trilogy 17 times, that the books from Christian’s POV are my favourites. I think for anyone who misjudged Christian and accused him of being a cold, arrogant man who was abusive towards women, they should really read the books from his POV. He is not cold or arrogant, or abusive. He is a man who had a horrific start to life, who learnt over the years to cope the only way he knew how. He unfortunately was introduced to sex by the wrong kind of person, but it taught him a way he could be in control, something so important to him. Something I understood because when you have no control as a child, you crave it as an adult.Ana certainly turns Christian on his head. Everything that is familiar to him and helps him cope is gone, and yet, he takes to his new lifestyle so well. This is an incredible love story. It’s the love story between a damaged young man and the woman who comes into his life and loves him, flaws and all. Who slowly but surely shows him there is another way and who teaches him to love, and to start to at least like himself. I LOVED everything about Darker.

50 Shades fans will be consumed in Christian Grey’s DARKER point of view. This book clearly gives the reader a much deeper understanding to Christian’s strong feelings for Ana of which he has difficulty admitting to himself. The effects of his first four years of life with a drug addict birth mother and her prostitution life that dragged him with her, always referring him by the name of Maggot, comes to the surface as his love for Ana grows more intense.Dr. Flynn has made a critical difference in helping Christian not only admit his feelings of love for Ana, but making him see he is “not afraid of commitment.”The depth of story in Charlie Tango’s crash, really brings to life the seriousness of Christian extreme need for a loving, intelligent, independent, compassionate but very strong, Ana.For fans of this saga, Darker is a must read.

I read and listened to Darker.. whispersync yay!!! it was a good book, i love that we got to see many of the scenes that we like on Christian's mind, his thoughts and also the conversations he had .. like the dialogs between Christian and Elena or Christian and Leila .. also how annoyed he was with Elena, we get to read his struggle while Ana is touching him, or when he thinks she is going to leave him again, his memories when he was just a child.. his memories of the bad men in his mothers life.. so many key scenes are written here in his POV and i love how we understand him more.I love how dirty and sexual he is when he is having sex with Ana or when he is around her.. he always has sex on his mind and is thinking how much he wants her.. we can also see how much he needs her.. he is a true gentleman, always protecting her and making sure she is always safe..at some point i got annoyed that his internal dialog, was way TOO much i mean i know is a POV but sometimes it was too much.. it was a long book 18 freaking hours lol yea...but it was good..can't wait for the last book !!!

To the reviewers who are complaining - YES it is the same story, from HIS POV. If you didn't know that going in then you did not read the description & must not be familiar with this trilogy. Maybe there could have been more but regardless, if your a Fifty Fan than this a little extra bonus, like a keepsake, from HIS POV. Well done EL James.

I had read the first trilogy of the 50 shades books told from Anna's POV and while they weren't the greatest things ever written they were fairly entertaining for quick reads. This book however, terrible. Christians POV is very scary and would give any woman cause to run far, far away from him no matter how much money he had. If you want to read a book from the view of a domineering, controlling, mentally abusing, stalker then this book is for you. If not, turn back now and don't say I didn't warn you. I didn't even finish it and that's something that rarely happens to me with books, but about half way through I could not take him and his thoughts any more.

I'm a huge Fifty's fan, read the other books Numerous times!! The love story of this trilogy is so incredible, how the unconditional love of one person can totally change such a damaged person. I fell in love with their love story. I am a little disappointed in this book though. I expected it to dig deeper into Christian's past, his childhood, time with Elena & had really hoped for more sessions with Dr Flynn. The Fifty Shades Christians POV showed us a little why he is the way he is but I expected this one to go into more depth. The advertising talked about seeing how depraved he was but it didn't show more than his first POV book. Even the convo with his mom finding out about Elena was not as impacting as I had expected nor was him admitting to Flynn that he was in love with Anna.
