About the Author

By beautiful, I mean real. Traumatic brain injuries can shake any family to the core. The person you knew is no longer there. How do you cope? Do you stay? Do you walk away? Do you fall in love all over again despite the self-perceived flaws on both sides of the story. It takes grit and it takes a stubborn soul to make it work all over again. This young couple made it all work again, but never made light of their situation or their relationship. I'm sure if the author had put all the trials and tribulations in this book, it would be thousands of pages long! We have all had our own up and downs. I think what I like, no...LOVE, about this book is that it can make you look at the big picture. Sometimes we all forget to do that when we are worried about the little pieces of our lives. By the time you finish the book, you feel as though you know the author and her husband personally. I would love to sit down and enjoy a glass of wine with them!

I am a slow reader and will often take months to finish a book, diligently working my way through 20-30 minutes of reading a day. But I received Love You Hard on a Tuesday and literally read it every spare moment between job, kids, and sleep until I finished the book three days later on Friday evening. I hung on Abby's every word. She doesn't shy away from documenting the difficult, heartbreaking moments, weeks, months and years that became her life as the caregiver to her husband with a TBI after a brutal assault. But this book is not at all just for the TBI community or for caregivers. Abby tells the story of how she reinvented the value and depth of how to love herself, her husband, and indeed contribute to the world in a deeply compassionate, active and meaningful way.

A good text for reference purposes.pros:-thick pages make it durable, a plus for a textbook that is likely to become a reference book-lots of info on common minerals for reference-essential mineralogy knowledge is in there...-...the info in the book is on the internet but tends to be very scattered, not much mineralogy on wikipedia unlike biology, chemistry, common core classes, etc. search a few topics in this book and all you get is scholarly research pdf papers.. and you probably won't understand those or find them very useful.-it makes you feel smart to read it and actually understand it... although that can be time-consumingcons:-no color photos, although not really necessary, but the nice cover photo is misleading-NOT an easy reading textbook--info is DENSE and requires multiple readings and supplemental sources to really understand it...not many good supplemental sources out there-there are some essential and difficult concepts that the book just glances over in a paragraph or two, there should be a student guide to flesh out the info, although it would probably need to be many times thicker than the textbook itself...-mineralogy is probably the hardest class on the path to a BS in geology or related majors once you get through chem, calc, and physics.

I am currently in a Mineralogy class and this is the required textbook. So far, it has been a fantastic resource. At first I was very disappointed at its scarcity of pictures (I'm a visual learner) and entirely black and white pages, but I am grateful that the book didn't cost $250, as it most likely would have if the book had been illustrated and printed in color.I am a third of the way through the class and we have basically read most of the book already. It is easy to read, conversational at times. The parts explaining chemistry are easy to understand, especially if you have already taken Gen Chem, which was a pre-req for my class. The mineral indices in the back are really helpful for looking up identification methods (hand sample, properties, optics) and quick references to the cleavage, crystal classifications, etc for common minerals.Honestly, I don't have any complaints about this book. Considering there is a wealth of mineral information available on websites such as [...] or [...], this book has just the right amount of information to learn your stuff without being overwhelmed by the endless amount of learning available in the field of mineralogy.Also, things people don't usually talk about in reviews: this book is about an inch thick, sturdily bound and printed on high stock paper. It will hold up to several semesters in the geology department and it's not so big that you dread taking it to class with you. It's worth buying to keep, new or used, if you're a geology major or a mineralogy enthusiast.

THIS BOOK IS AWESOME! It its easy to understand, I read some chapters over. I am not a big reader but I needed to pass mineralogy. It helped me more than the newer book and at a FRACTION of the cost!!! BUY THIS BOOK. Information is almost identical. Just different page numbers but you will be able to find where you were at very very easily. The color index in the back of mine was in tact and was actually way better than the one the newer books provided. Just a thought. I loved it. It is the best book I bought all throughout my Geology Major!

The way in which this book is written is intuitive and fluid. Explanations are aided greatly by relevant figures. The miller indicies are explained quite easily and down to earth, so is the basics for crystal structure and formation. If you are an instructor looking for a mineralogy text, I highly suggest this one. The information is the same as from other texts, however it is presented in a manner that is easy to read, understand and reference.

It says For Kids, but I think it is for everyone who wants to draw things. And the book shows easy step by step things to draw. I like the book.

My 6yo son dislikes any kind of pencil work. He hates writing, he hates drawing, colouring.At one point it's part of basic art instruction to teach him how to make drawings one can recognize, so I tried this. I asked him to do two, he did ten! He's not a gifted illustrator by any stretch of the imagination but he can now make basic animals, foods, vehicles, etc. and enjoys doing so.

My 6 year old is challenged by the drawings but able to be successful.

Bought this not realizing it was the method of drawing where you are to draw lines and then arace them which turned out to be super difficult for my kindergartner who I bought the book for and the pictures are actually quite in-depth for a beginner. Would not recommend

Great read

DO NOT buy this text! The scriptures are not organized in anywhere near the intuitive fashion as the Conze version, and it is missing a whole host of sutras, most notably, EVERYTHING about the conversations between King Milinda, and the Bodhisattva, Nagasena, which are absolutely critical in any study of Buddhism. Lopez's rambling and unhelpful inter-locutions throughout the text are distracting and unhelpful, and really break up the blow of what little original text he didn't butcher. Seriously, buy the 1959 edition by Conze and you will be much happier.

Well written and comprehensive text. Purchased it used and it arrived in record time and was in the condition expected. Good value and excellent reading for students of Buddhism, or for anyone simply interested in Buddhism.

This book is a nice collection of Buddhist stories, chants, and prayers. This is a nice fit on the book shelf.

This is a very useful anthology for students of Buddhism. In addition to highly readable translations of selected ancient texts filled with descriptions and advice; it also includes many instructive fables and tales, including "Maitreya describes the Future" and "A King gives away his Head."Of particular note is the predecessor to the biblical story of the loaves and fishes -- it is the story of how a single portion of alms fed 84,000 sravakas and 12,000 bodhisattvas, and still the food did not run out. hmmmm, sound familiar?

According to many scholars, the amount of Buddhist literature is vast. It would be impossible to present all of it in one volume. But Dr. Lopez has presented a plausibly representative sample of Buddhist literature, with very helpful commentaries preceding each selection. The collection is quite revealing to a Western reader like myself, in that it shows the implausible, supernaturalistic nature of much Buddhist literature. Nevertheless it is good background information for anyone who wants to study more modern or Western-friendly Buddhism, like Zen. It is not surprising that Zen practitioners dismiss many Buddhist writings as irrelevant or unimportant. Zen considers lengthy, repetative sutras and philosophical treatises to be merely fingers pointing at the moon, which should not be mistaken for the moon itself.
